Cantonal Energy Certificate for Buildings

Everyone is talking about it and cantons such as Fribourg, Vaud and Neuchâtel even require it in some cases! But, in fact, why?

First of all, the CECB is the acronym for Cantonal Energy Certificate for Buildings.

It is a standardised certificate designed, established and recognised by all cantons of the Confederation to assess the quality of a building. It is the best assessment and advisory tool for buildings in Switzerland. It establishes and documents the condition of the building envelope and technical installations. In other words, it assesses the energy efficiency of the building envelope and the amount of energy that the building consumes in standard use. This means energy for heating, domestic hot water (DHW) and electricity for lighting, ventilation and electrical appliances and/or household appliances.

And why do some cantons require this certificate when selling and/or changing boilers? It should be noted that in Switzerland, domestic heating and the preparation of DHW account for almost one third of the total final energy consumed. Not insignificant, is it?

These figures highlight the climate issues related to the Swiss building stock.

Cleaning up the residential, commercial and administrative building stock through CECB is therefore a main priority of federal policy.
This policy aims to reduce energy waste and consumption from fossil sources.
Renovation guided by CECB Plus is therefore The Tool.
