How to use the Subsidies in the energy cities to make a CECB+?

1 - Introduction: applying for an energy grant in the canton of Vaud

Energy prices (oil, gas and electricity) have been rising for several months now. An effective way to counteract this new financial constraint is to renovate Switzerland's building stock. In addition, several Subsidies are granted for each canton and each municipality.

The objective of this article is to present the Subsidies available for the renovation of the building for all the communes quoted in the energy of the canton of Vaud.

The aim is to understand and quantify the financial support for renovations CECB, CECB Plus, Minergie, Minergie-P. The cantonal Subsidies are the same for each municipality and will be presented in the next chapter. Then, the Subsidies per commune will be explained.

2 - What does the "Energy Cities" label mean according to the SFOE?

The "Cité de l'énergie" label certifies the performance of individual municipalities that implement an exemplary energy transition policy. In other words, Energy Cities promote renewable energies and environmentally friendly mobility. They also promote the efficient use of resources.

Here is a list of the energy cities in the canton of Vaud, taken from the website https://www.energiestadt.ch/.

The energy cities selected for this article on Subsidies CECB Plus, CECB and energy renovation are the following: Yverdon-les-bains, Pully, Nyon, Lutry, Prangins, Epalinges, Gland, Blonay, Lavigny, Vevey, Morges, Montreux, Saint-Prex, Aigle, Bussigny, Leysin, Crissier, Saint-Croix, Le Mont-sur-Lausanne, Bex, Renens, Cossonay, Prilly, Orbe and Lausanne.

3 - What Subsidies of the Canton of Vaud for the CECB Plus?

Renovation of the building envelope in the Canton of Vaud

The canton of Vaud offers several Subsidies on its territory for the renovation of the building envelope. In particular;

  1. CECB Plus (Cantonal Energy Certificate for Buildings Plus)
  2. Insulation bonus for comprehensive renovation
  3. Insulation bonus for a Minergie comprehensive renovation
  4. Thermal insulation of buildings
  5. Complete renovation CECB
  6. Complete Minergie renovation
  7. SNBS (sustainable construction)

The ones we are interested in here: Complete renovation CECB and CECB Plus:

CECB More in the canton of Vaud

A cantonal subsidy is granted to owners of buildings constructed before 2000 to establish a Cantonal Energy Certificate for Buildings Plus (CECB Plus):

Financial contribution from the canton of Vaud for the CECB Plus:

  • Single-family house: 1000 fr.
  • Collective housing: 1500 fr.

Complete renovation CECB canton de vaud

This grant is awarded for a complete renovation up to class CECB® C/B or B/A.

Financial contribution from the canton :

For buildings achieving the envelope label and overall energy efficiency CECB® C/B respectively:

  • Single-family dwelling: 90 fr/m2 (ERS: Energy Reference Area)
  • Collective housing: 50 fr/m2 (SRE)
  • Other use: 35 fr/m2 (SRE)

For buildings achieving the envelope label and overall energy efficiency CECB® B/A respectively:

  • Single-family dwelling: 140 fr/m2 (SRE)
  • Collective housing: 80 fr/m2 (SRE)
  • Other use: 60 fr/m2 (SRE)

During an audit CECB Plus, the energy reference area is calculated and thus the exact subsidy amount for each building can be determined.

Finally, the improvement of the thermal insulation of the facade, roof, walls and floor to ground are also subsidised. A bonus is granted for the improvement of the insulation coefficient.

A subsidy is also granted for new buildings or replacements that are awarded the Minergie and Minergie-P label. Sustainable construction is also subsidised according to the criteria of the Swiss Sustainable Building Standard (SNBS). (Subsidy programmes for energy and mobility - energy francs, n.d.)

4 - Subsidies communal for CECB Plus and renovation

In addition to the cantonal Subsidies , the following municipalities have Subsidies for CECB, CECB Plus and energy audits: Yverdon-les-Bains, Nyon, Gland, Le Mont-sur-Lausanne, Renens, Pully, Lutry, Epalinges, Vevey, Aigle and Orbe:

City of Nyon: municipal subsidy for the energy audit CECB More than 50% of the costs not covered by the Canton.

In addition, Subsidies is granted for heat pumps, solar thermal and photovoltaic panels as well as for thermal insulation

City of Yverdon-les-Bains: municipal subsidy for the CECB Plus and for the renovation of the building envelope.

The certificate CECB Plus is financially supported by the municipality to the amount of :

  • CHF 500 Individual housing
  • CHF 750 - collective housing, administration and school

For the renovation of the building in the municipality of Yverdon-les-Bains, 25% of the cantonal subsidy, maximum CHF 10,000, is additional financial support.

City of Acorn: communal subsidy for the following audits CECB+ and PEIK. The amount is up to 2'000 CHF

In addition, Subsidies communal grants are awarded for the renovation of the envelope and up to CHF 20'000.00

The Commune of Mont-sur-Lausanne: municipal subsidy for the CECB Plus

The commune of Mont-sur-Lausanne grants 20% of the cost of a CECB+ study, up to a maximum of $500 per study.

City of Renens: municipal subsidy for the CECB Plus:

The municipality of Renens subsidises CECB at 40% of the cost and a maximum of 2000 per study and per site.

Pully: municipal subsidy for CECB More than 50% of the cantonal subsidy.

Lutry : the communal subsidy for the CECB More than 50% of the cantonal subsidy and maximum 750.00

Epalinges: municipal subsidy for CECB More than 300

Vevey: municipal subsidy for CECB More than 75% of the actual cost of the study.

Aigle: grant for the renovation of the building envelope.

  • Individual building: Flat rate CHF 5000.00
  • Multi-family building: CHF 20/m2 SRE (max: CHF 10,000)

Orbe: municipal subsidy of 300 for the CECB Plus.

5 - Conclusion: applying for an energy grant in the canton of Vaud

With the help of these energy audits and the resulting renovations, Swiss homeowners and citizens can support projects that promote sustainable development. The CECB and CECB Plus websites provide the spark that is needed to make energy savings.

Many municipalities are providing more support to their citizens for the renovation of the thermal envelope of buildings.
